Contraction-induced cell wounding and release of fibroblast growth factor in heart.

TL;DR: This study demonstrates that transient, survivable disruption (wounding) of the cardiac myocyte plasma membrane is a constitutive event in vivo and proposes that contraction-induced cardiac myocytes wounding releases aFGF and bFGF, which then may act as autocrine growth-promoting stimuli.

Inhibition of NAD(P)H Oxidase Activity Blocks Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Overexpression and Neovascularization during Ischemic Retinopathy

TL;DR: It is concluded that inhibition of NAD(P)H oxidase activity is required for hypoxia-stimulated increases in VEGF expression and retinal neovascularization and offers a new therapeutic target for the treatment of retinopathy.
