SHARK-NIR coronagraphic simulations: performance dependence on the Strehl ratio

TL;DR: In this paper, a set of corona-graphic masks were tested, and the best performing configurations for the instrument: the Gaussian-Lyot coronagraph, a Shaped Pupil (SP) with 360° of discovery space and two SP masks with asymmetric detection area but with a small inner working angle and the Four Quadrant phase mask.
Proceedings ArticleDOI

Pointing and tracking results of the VST telescope

TL;DR: The VLT Survey Telescope (VST) is the latest telescope installed at ESO's Paranal Observatory in northern Chile as mentioned in this paper, and the control strategy and the results obtained during the commissioning of the telescope are described in detail.
Proceedings ArticleDOI

Pushing the limits of NGSs solely AO: GMCAO and beyond

TL;DR: For almost two decades significant improvements have been made in the area of efficient wavefront sensing to compensate areas in the sky of larger size and with better achieved quality as mentioned in this paper, some of them become possible because of the development of new technologies, because of availability of new kind of telescopes or because of new concepts.
Journal ArticleDOI

Software and control system for the VLT Survey Telescope

TL;DR: This paper mainly focuses on the telescope control software, which is in charge of the real-time control of the hardware and of the overall coordination of the operations, including pointing and tracking, active optics and presets.
