Journal ArticleDOI

A review of pressure‐driven membrane processes in wastewater treatment and drinking water production

TL;DR: In pressure-driven membrane processes, a pressure exerted on the solution at one side of the membrane serves as a driving force to separate it into a permeate and a retentate as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI

Alumina and titania multilayer membranes for nanofiltration: preparation, characterization and chemical stability

TL;DR: In this article, the preparation and characterization of porous ceramic multilayer nanofiltration (NF) membranes is described, where the macroporous substrate, the membrane interlayers and the active NF toplayer is a very thin and fine textured polymeric TiO 2 toplayer.
Journal ArticleDOI

Economic comparison between azeotropic distillation and different hybrid systems combining distillation with pervaporation for the dehydration of isopropanol

TL;DR: In this paper, an economic analysis was performed comparing different processes for the dehydration of isopropanol/water, and it was found that the hybrid system distillation-pervaporation with ceramic membranes was the most interesting process from economic point of view and could lead to a saving in total costs of 49% compared to azeotropic distillation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of the addition of ZrO2 to polysulfone based UF membranes

TL;DR: In this article, a flat sheet Zirfon® membranes composed of organic (polysulfone; PSf) and inorganic (zirconium oxide; ZrO2) constituents were prepared by the phase-inversion process.
Journal ArticleDOI

Salt retention in nanofiltration with multilayer ceramic TiO2 membranes

TL;DR: In this paper, a multilayer TiO 2 membrane, consisting of two mesoporous anatase interlayers and a microporous top-layer, prepared by a sol-gel procedure, was demonstrated.
