TL;DR: In this paper, a process for nitrifying water in closed system hatcheries of penaeid and non-penaeid prawns is described, which comprises in a first step of treating water with an ammonia oxidizing consortia to convert the ammonium present in water of the hatchery system to NO2 and in a second step of nitrite oxidizing with a nitrite reducing consortias for converting NO2 into NO3.
