Journal ArticleDOI
The mammalian lectin galectin-8 induces RANKL expression, osteoclastogenesis, and bone mass reduction in mice
Yaron Vinik,Hadas Shatz-Azoulay,Alessia Vivanti,Navit Hever,Yifat Levy,Rotem Karmona,Vlad Brumfeld,Saja Baraghithy,Malka Attar-Lamdar,Sigalit Boura-Halfon,Itai Bab,Yehiel Zick +11 more
TL;DR: These findings identify galectins as new players in osteoclastogenesis and bone remodeling, and highlight a potential regulation of bone mass by animal lectins.
Journal ArticleDOI
Polyglutamine-Related Aggregates Can Serve as a Potent Antigen Source for Cross-Presentation by Dendritic Cells
Shira Tabachnick-Cherny,Sivan Pinto,Dikla Berko,Caterina Curato,Yochai Wolf,Ziv Porat,Rotem Karmona,Boaz Tirosh,Steffen Jung,Ami Navon +9 more
TL;DR: The data implicate global protein aggregation in apoptotic cells as a mechanism that ensures the overlap between MHC class I epitopes presented directly or cross-presented by APC and demonstrate the unusual ability of dendritic cells to process stable protein aggregates.

{-}{-}{-}{-}{-}Polyglutamine-related aggregates serve as a potent antigen source for cross presentation by dendritic cells
Ami Navon,Shira Tabachnick-Cherny,Dikla Berko,Sivan Pinto,Caterina Curato,Yochai Wolf,Ziv Porat,Rotem Karmona,Boaz Tirosh,Steffen Jung +9 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that upon apoptosis stable proteins are aggregated in p62-dependent pathway and that dendritic cells are capable to efficiently process these aggregates to retrieve antigens for T cell stimulation.
