Dam-break flows over mobile beds: experiments and benchmark tests for numerical models
Sandra Soares-Frazão,Ricardo B. Canelas,Zhixian Cao,Luis Cea,Hanif M. Chaudhry,Andres Die Moran,Kamal El Kadi,Rui Ferreira,Ignacio Fraga Cadórniga,Noemi Gonzalez-Ramirez,Massimo Greco,Wei Huang,Jasim Imran,Jérôme Le Coz,Reza Marsooli,André Paquier,Gareth Pender,Marianeve Pontillo,Jerónimo Puertas,Benoît Spinewine,Catherine Swartenbroekx,Ryota Tsubaki,Catherine Villaret,Weiming Wu,Zhiyuan Yue,Yves Zech +25 more
TL;DR: In this article, the results of a benchmark test launched within the framework of the NSF-PIRE project "Modeling of Flood Hazards and Geomorphic Impacts of Levee Breach and Dam Failure" are presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
SPH-DCDEM model for arbitrary geometries in free surface solid-fluid flows
Ricardo B. Canelas,Alejandro J. C. Crespo,José M. Domínguez,Rui Ferreira,Moncho Gómez-Gesteira +4 more
TL;DR: The results show that the new unified discretization of rigid solids and fluids is accurate and is capable of treating highly complex interactions, such as transport of debris or hydrodynamic actions on structures, if relevant scales are reproduced.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Smooth Particle Hydrodynamics discretization for the modelling of free surface flows and rigid body dynamics
Ricardo B. Canelas,José M. Domínguez,Alejandro J. C. Crespo,Moncho Gómez-Gesteira,Rui Ferreira +4 more
TL;DR: In this article, a unified discretization of rigid solids and fluids, allowing for spatially detailed and time-resolved simulations of fluid-solid interaction, is described, based on a Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) discretisation of the Navier-Stokes equations and Newton's equations for rigid body dynamics.
Journal ArticleDOI
A numerical tool for modelling oscillating wave surge converter with nonlinear mechanical constraints
Moisés Brito,Ricardo B. Canelas,Orlando García-Feal,José M. Domínguez,Alejandro J. C. Crespo,Rui Ferreira,Maria Graça Neves,Luis Teixeira +7 more
TL;DR: A numerical simulation tool for OWSCs that does not neglect or significantly compromise mechanical constraints such as hydraulic power take-off (PTO) system, revolute joints and frictional contacts among components is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dam-Break Wave-Front Celerity
TL;DR: In this article, the role of friction and inertia effects on the magnitude of dam-break wave-front celerity was investigated, and it was found that the celerity is mainly influenced by the friction coefficient, by sediment inertia, by the initial downstream water depth, and by initial bed step height.
