The MODIS fire products

TL;DR: In this article, the MODIS Fire Rapid Response System and a web-based mapping system for enhanced distribution are described, and the next steps for MODIS fire products are outlined and an example is given for southern Africa of how this product can be used in modeling pyrogenic emissions.
Journal ArticleDOI

Global distribution of agricultural fires in croplands from 3 years of Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) data

TL;DR: In this article, the MODIS Terra active fire product was analyzed to investigate the spatial and temporal occurrence of fires in croplands from 2001 to 2003, and the Russian Federation was the largest contributor to agricultural burning globally during the 3 years, producing 31% of all agricultural fires.
Journal ArticleDOI

The spatial and temporal distribution of crop residue burning in the contiguous United States.

TL;DR: The results show that cropland burning is an extensive and recurring annual event in several states in the CONUS, and the burned area approach provides a more consistent methodology for quantifying croplands burned area at regional scales than the previously available U.S. national and state-level statistics on crop residue burning.
Journal ArticleDOI

Agricultural burning in the Southeastern United States detected by MODIS

TL;DR: Friedl et al. as discussed by the authors analyzed the satellite data from 2001 to 2004 and showed that agricultural burning in the southeastern United States accounted for an average of 16% of annual fire activity.
