A new PCR-ELISA for diagnosis of visceral leishmaniasis in blood of HIV-negative subjects

TL;DR: The ability of PCR-ELISA to detect parasites in blood of HIV-negative patients is demonstrated, and the method could be used for epidemiological as well as clinical purposes, as it reduces the need for traumatic bone marrow sampling and risky spleen aspiration.
Journal ArticleDOI

Molecular typing of the actin gene of Trichomonas vaginalis isolates by PCR–restriction fragment length polymorphism

TL;DR: A reproducible, sensitive and specific typing method is developed that was able to distinguish at least eight T. vaginalis actin genotypes, and further studies are needed to evaluate the method using clinical specimens and to determine the utility of the typing method for the genotypic characterization of T. vaginais.
