What role does data play in competition? This question has been at the center of a fierce debate around competition policy in the digital economy. We use a competition-in-utilities approach to provide a general framework for studying the competitive effects of data, encompassing a wide range of markets where data has many different uses. We identify conditions for data to be unilaterally proor anti-competitive (UPC or UAC). The conditions are simple and often require no information about market demand. We apply our framework to study various applications of data, including training algorithms, targeting advertisements, and personalizing prices. We also show that whether data is UPC or UAC has important implications for policy issues such as data-driven mergers, market structure, and privacy policy.

Data and Competition: a General Framework with Applications to Mergers, Market Structure, and Privacy Policy

Adopting the Supply Chain Operations Reference (SCOR) model, this study aims at investigating the impact of big data (volume, velocity, variety, veracity, and value) on supply chain performance through the mediating role of supply chain management (plan, source, make, deliver, and return) assuming four hypotheses. Data were collected using a questionnaire from managers of food processing companies. The results showed that big data affected supply chain management significantly and positively, which in turn affected supply chain performance significantly and positively. In addition, big data exerted a significant and positive impact on supply chain performance. Based on these links, it was found that supply chain management mediated significantly the effect of big data on supply chain performance. The study contributes to the literature showing that big data plays a pivotal role in improving supply chain performance and supply chain performance from the SCOR model perspective is critical for the relationship between these two constructs.

The mediating role of supply chain management on the relationship between big data and supply chain performance using SCOR model

The aim of this research is to examine the impact of supply chain management through social media on competitiveness of the private hospitals in Jordan. The population of the study includes managers in various administrative disciplines. Therefore, the complete census method was used in this research to collect the primary data, where the total responses were 438 responses were used for analysis. The questionnaire was used as a basic instrument in the current research, as it was designed electronically through Google Forms and sent to the research sample via email. AMOS software was used to test the research hypotheses. The results showed that all dimensions of supply chain management through social media had a positive impact on competitiveness; the greatest effect was for strategic relations with suppliers. Based on the study results; managers at the examined companies should enhance their usage of social media with suppliers, according to the report, in order to support strategic connections with them.

The effect of supply chain management through social media on competitiveness of the private hospitals in Jordan

The aim of the research is to test the impact of big data on the quality of decision making. The necessary data was collected from telecommunication companies operating in Jordan. Three companies provide telecommunications services in Jordan: Zain, Umniah, and Orange. Non-probability purposive sampling was used. Hence, the study instrument was distributed to managers at the senior and middle levels of these companies. The structured equation modeling (SEM) technique was employed to test the study hypotheses. The results confirmed that big data impacts decision quality. Besides, it was determined that the highest impact was on velocity. The researchers suggest that Jordanian telecom companies invest in information technology that allows them to provide data with accuracy, reliability, and high quality, as well as improve the qualifications of their employees.

The effect of big data on decision quality: Evidence from telecommunication industry

The purpose of this study is to investigate the mediating role of operational flexibility between the quality of health information technology and management capability. A cross-sectional study was conducted; data was obtained based on 365 medical staff (medical doctors, nurses, and medical technologists) from public hospitals in the northern region of Jordan; a covenant sample was used. The authors used structural equation modeling to verify the hypotheses. The results reveal that the quality of health information technology has a significant impact on management capability and operational flexibility. Operational flexibility as a partial mediating variable also showed a significant impact on management capability. The study suggests that increasing the quality of health information technology will enhance the management capability and operational flexibility in healthcare organizations and will increase employee loyalty as a vehicle to trigger positive work-related attitudes. This study is one of the very limited studies in the Middle East that examined the role of operational flexibility in the quality of health information technology and employee management capability.
