Nutritional interventions to improve muscle mass, muscle strength, and physical performance in older people: an umbrella review of systematic reviews and meta-analyses.

TL;DR: Best evidence is available to recommend leucine, because it has a significant effect on muscle mass in elderly people with sarcopenia, and protein supplementation on top of resistance training is recommended to increase muscle mass and strength.
Journal ArticleDOI

Could geriatric characteristics explain the under-prescription of anticoagulation therapy for older patients admitted with atrial fibrillation? A retrospective observational study.

TL;DR: In this population, in which most patients had multiple impairments, no single impairment or geriatric characteristic was identified as a barrier to AVK use, and it is possible that combinations of impairments and geriatric characteristics were barriers to the prescription of AVK therapy across the whole of this population.
Journal ArticleDOI

Frailty in Old Age Is Associated with Decreased Interleukin-12/23 Production in Response to Toll-Like Receptor Ligation

TL;DR: The results indicated that age was not correlated with TLR-mediated IL-12p70 and IL-23 production, and poor nutritional status and frailty in subjects >75 years were associated with decreased IL- 12p70and IL- 23 production.
Journal ArticleDOI

Comprehensive geriatric assessment and comorbidities predict survival in geriatric oncology

TL;DR: Assessment of the utility of a comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA) to guide interventions to improve quality of cancer care in older adults found several tools provide determinants of survival in old cancer patients.
