Structure of a type IV secretion system
Harry H. Low,Francesca Gubellini,Angel Rivera-Calzada,Nathalie Braun,Sarah Connery,Annick Dujeancourt,Fang Lu,Adam Redzej,Rémi Fronzes,Elena V. Orlova,Gabriel Waksman +10 more
TL;DR: This work uses electron microscopy to reconstruct the type IV secretion system encoded by the Escherichia coli R388 conjugative plasmid and shows a secretion system with markedly different architecture, and consequently mechanism, to other known bacterial secretion systems.
Journal ArticleDOI
Structural biology of the Gram-negative bacterial conjugation systems
TL;DR: The recent progress made in the structural biology of both the relaxosome and the T4SS is described, which are mediated by type IV secretion systems.
Journal ArticleDOI
Structure of a VirD4 coupling protein bound to a VirB type IV secretion machinery
Adam Redzej,Marta Ukleja,Sarah Connery,Martina Trokter,Catarina Felisberto-Rodrigues,Adam Cryar,Konstantinos Thalassinos,Konstantinos Thalassinos,Richard D. Hayward,Richard D. Hayward,Elena V. Orlova,Gabriel Waksman,Gabriel Waksman +12 more
TL;DR: This study purify a T4S system with VirD4 bound, define the biochemical requirements for complex formation and describe the protein–protein interaction network in which VirD 4 is involved, providing mechanistic insights on a process that mediates the dangerous spread of antibiotic resistance genes among bacterial populations.
