Contemporary Management of Cardiogenic Shock: A Scientific Statement From the American Heart Association
Sean van Diepen,Jason N. Katz,Nancy M. Albert,Timothy D. Henry,Alice K. Jacobs,Navin K. Kapur,Ahmet Kilic,Venu Menon,E. Magnus Ohman,Nancy K. Sweitzer,Holger Thiele,Jeffrey B. Washam,Mauricio G. Cohen +12 more
TL;DR: The epidemiology, pathophysiology, causes, and outcomes of cardiogenic shock are summarized; contemporary best medical, surgical, mechanical circulatory support, and palliative care practices are reviewed; the development of regionalized systems of care is advocated; and future research priorities are outlined.
Journal ArticleDOI
SCAI clinical expert consensus statement on the classification of cardiogenic shock: This document was endorsed by the American College of Cardiology (ACC), the American Heart Association (AHA), the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM), and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) in April 2019
David A. Baran,Cindy L. Grines,Steven R. Bailey,Daniel Burkhoff,Shelley A. Hall,Timothy D. Henry,Steven M. Hollenberg,Navin K. Kapur,William W. O'Neill,Joseph P. Ornato,Kelly Stelling,Holger Thiele,Sean van Diepen,Srihari S. Naidu +13 more
TL;DR: The outcome of cardiogenic shock complicating myocardial infarction has not appreciably changed in the last 30 years despite the development of various percutaneous mechanical circulatory support options.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cardiogenic Shock Classification to Predict Mortality in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit
Jacob C. Jentzer,Sean van Diepen,Gregory W. Barsness,Timothy D. Henry,Venu Menon,Charanjit S. Rihal,Srihari S. Naidu,David A. Baran +7 more
TL;DR: When assessed at the time of CICU admission, the SCAI CS classification, including presence or absence of CA, provided robust hospital mortality risk stratification and could be implemented as a clinical and research tool to identify, communicate, and predict the risk of death in patients with, and at risk for, CS.
Journal ArticleDOI
Levosimendan in Patients with Left Ventricular Dysfunction Undergoing Cardiac Surgery
Rajendra H. Mehta,Jeffrey D. Leimberger,Sean van Diepen,James M. Meza,Alice Wang,Rachael Jankowich,Robert W. Harrison,Douglas Hay,Stephen E. Fremes,Andra I. Duncan,Edward G. Soltesz,John Luber,Soon Park,Michael Argenziano,Edward L. Murphy,Randy Marcel,Dimitri Kalavrouziotis,Dave Nagpal,John Bozinovski,Wolfgang Toller,Matthias Heringlake,Shaun G. Goodman,Jerrold H. Levy,Robert A. Harrington,Kevin J. Anstrom,John H. Alexander +25 more
TL;DR: Prophylactic levosimendan did not result in a rate of the short‐term composite end point of death, renal‐replacement therapy, perioperative myocardial infarction, or use of a mechanical cardiac assist device that was lower than the rate with placebo among patients with a reduced left ventricular ejection fraction who were undergoing cardiac surgery with the use of cardiopulmonary bypass.
Journal ArticleDOI
Regional Variation in Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest Survival in the United States
Saket Girotra,Sean van Diepen,Brahmajee K. Nallamothu,Margaret Carrel,Kimberly Vellano,Monique L. Anderson,Bryan McNally,Benjamin S. Abella,Comilla Sasson,Paul S. Chan +9 more
TL;DR: Although out-of-hospital cardiac arrest survival varies significantly across US counties, a substantial proportion of the variation is attributable to differences in bystander response across communities.
