Journal ArticleDOI

Structural basis for the carbohydrate recognition of the Sclerotium rolfsii lectin

TL;DR: Sequence and structural comparisons reveal that SRL is the third member of a newly identified family of fungal lectins, which includes lectins from Agaricus bisporus and Xerocomus chrysenteron that share a high degree of structural similarity and carbohydrate specificity.
Journal ArticleDOI

Immunolocalization and functional role of Sclerotium rolfsii lectin in development of fungus by interaction with its endogenous receptor

TL;DR: The importance of lectin-receptor interactions to explain hitherto speculated functional role of the lectins and also the glycosphingolipids of fungi is demonstrated.
Journal ArticleDOI

Carbohydrate specificity of a lectin isolated from the fungus Sclerotium rolfsii.

TL;DR: It is suggested that T(alpha) and Tn glycotopes, which are present only in abnormal carbohydrate sequences of higher orders of mammal, are the most likely sites for phytopathogenic fungal attachment as an initial step of infection.
Journal ArticleDOI

A potent mitogenic lectin from the mycelia of a phytopathogenic fungus, Rhizoctonia bataticola, with complex sugar specificity and cytotoxic effect on human ovarian cancer cells.

TL;DR: A lectin with strong mitogenic activity towards human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and cytotoxic effect on human ovarian cancer cells has been purified from the mycelium of a phytopathogenic fungus, Rhizoctonia bataticola, using ion exchange chromatography and affinity chromatography on asialofetuin-Sepharose.
