Gentamicin treatment of Duchenne and Becker muscular dystrophy due to nonsense mutations
Kathryn R. Wagner,Kathryn R. Wagner,Sherifa A. Hamed,Donald W. Hadley,Andrea L. Gropman,Aaron H. Burstein,Diana M. Escolar,Diana M. Escolar,Eric P. Hoffman,Kenneth H. Fischbeck +9 more
TL;DR: In the mdx mouse, where muscular dystrophy is due to a nonsense mutation in the dystrophin gene, gentamicin suppressed truncation of the protein and ameliorated the phenotype, and full‐length dyStrophin was not detected in pre‐ and post‐treatment muscle biopsies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prevalence of psychological stress, depression and anxiety among medical students in Egypt
Mohamed Fawzy,Sherifa A. Hamed +1 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that depression, anxiety and stress symptoms are common in medical students of Assiut University relative to other schools and female gender was significantly correlated with these findings.
Journal ArticleDOI
Blood levels of trace elements, electrolytes, and oxidative stress/antioxidant systems in epileptic patients.
TL;DR: It is concluded that the above parameters balance differs in epileptics comparable to controls and hence their correlation to seizures pathophysiology and their degree of control or resistance to antiepileptic drug therapy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genetic and phenotypic characterization of complex hereditary spastic paraplegia

Singleton,John Hardy,Nicholas W. Wood,Patrick A. Lewis,Patrick A. Lewis,Henry Houlden,Henry Houlden +34 more
TL;DR: This work investigates a series of 97 index cases with complex hereditary spastic paraplegia and identifies SPG11 defects in 30 families, as well as mutations in other HSP genes and genes associated with disorders including Parkinson’s disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Vascular risk factors and oxidative stress as independent predictors of asymptomatic atherosclerosis in adult patients with epilepsy.
TL;DR: It is supported that in patients with epilepsy, various vascular risk factors and CA-IMT get worse which could be attributed to epilepsy itself and/or its antiepileptic medications.
