Journal ArticleDOI

Occurrence of androgens and progestogens in wastewater treatment plants and receiving river waters: comparison to estrogens.

TL;DR: Different profiles of progestogens in the receiving rivers and WWTP effluents were observed, which could be explained by the discharge of a mixture of treated and untreated wastewater into the receiving Rivers.
Journal ArticleDOI

Adsorption of perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in groundwater by granular activated carbons: Roles of hydrophobicity of PFAS and carbon characteristics

TL;DR: The adsorption breakthrough behavior of nine perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in groundwaters by four bituminous coal-based granular activated carbons was studied using rapid small-scale column tests (RSSCTs), indicating that hydrophobic interaction is important for apparent adsorbent capacity of PFAS in groundwater with low dissolved organic concentrations and low specific UV absorbances.
Journal ArticleDOI

Behaviors of Glucocorticoids, Androgens and Progestogens in a Municipal Sewage Treatment Plant: Comparison to Estrogens

TL;DR: Glucocorticoids, androgens, and progestogens were mainly removed by degradation as with estrogens, while different behaviors were observed in the aerated grit chamber, anaerobic tank, anoxic tank, and aerobic tank units.
Journal ArticleDOI

Trace analysis of androgens and progestogens in environmental waters by ultra-performance liquid chromatography-electrospray tandem mass spectrometry.

TL;DR: A sensitive ultra-performance liquid chromatography-electrospray tandem mass spectrometry method was established for nine androgens and progestogens in the wastewater and surface water samples from Japan, and no apparent signal suppression was found.
Journal ArticleDOI

Reducing ultrafiltration membrane fouling during potable water reuse using pre-ozonation.

TL;DR: This study investigated the effects of pre-ozonation as a pre-treatment for UF on the membrane fouling caused by EfOM in secondary wastewater effluents for hydrophilic regenerated cellulose and hydrophobic polyethersulfone UF membranes.
