Journal ArticleDOI
Osteoporosis in patients with diabetes mellitus.
TL;DR: Strategies to improve BMD and to prevent osteoporotic fractures in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus may include optimal glycemic control and aggressive prevention and treatment of vascular complications.
Journal ArticleDOI
Microenvironmental Determinants of Pancreatic Cancer
Elisabeth Hessmann,Soeren M. Buchholz,Ihsan Ekin Demir,Shiv K. Singh,Thomas M. Gress,Volker Ellenrieder,Albrecht Neesse +6 more
TL;DR: Findings suggest that parts of the TME in PDAC may also possess tumor-restraining properties rendering tailored therapies even more challenging, and there is still a large discrepancy between multiple successful preclinical results and subsequent failure in clinical trials.
Journal ArticleDOI
Molecular Heterogeneity and Immunosuppressive Microenvironment in Glioblastoma.
Syreeta DeCordova,Abhishek Shastri,Anthony G. Tsolaki,Hadida Yasmin,Lukas Klein,Shiv K. Singh,Uday Kishore +6 more
TL;DR: Recent genomic advances, the role of innate and adaptive immune mechanisms, and the presence of an established immunosuppressive GBM microenvironment that suppresses and/or prevents the anti-tumor host response are discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Inflammation induced NFATc1-STAT3 Transcription Complex Promotes Pancreatic Cancer initiation by KrasG12D
Sandra Baumgart,Nai Ming Chen,Nai Ming Chen,Jens T. Siveke,Alexander König,Alexander König,Alexander König,Jin San Zhang,Shiv K. Singh,Elmar Wolf,Marek Bartkuhn,Irene Esposito,Elisabeth Heßmann,Elisabeth Heßmann,Johanna Reinecke,Johanna Reinecke,Julius Nikorowitsch,Marius Brunner,Garima Singh,Martin E. Fernandez-Zapico,Thomas C. Smyrk,William R. Bamlet,Martin Eilers,Albrecht Neesse,Thomas M. Gress,Daniel D. Billadeau,David A. Tuveson,Raul Urrutia,Volker Ellenrieder +28 more
TL;DR: A novel pathway whereby the transcription factors NFATc1 and STAT3 cooperate in pancreatic epithelial cells to promote Kras(G12D)-driven carcinogenesis is outlined, pointing to the existence of an oncogenic NFatc1-STAT3 cooperativity that mechanistically links inflammation with pancreatic cancer initiation and progression.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sequential Activation of NFAT and c-Myc Transcription Factors Mediates the TGF-β Switch from a Suppressor to a Promoter of Cancer Cell Proliferation
Garima Singh,Shiv K. Singh,Alexander König,Kristina Reutlinger,Monica D. Nye,Tillman Adhikary,Martin Eilers,Thomas M. Gress,Martin E. Fernandez-Zapico,Volker Ellenrieder +9 more
TL;DR: This study provides the first evidence for a Smad-independent master regulatory pathway in TGF-β-promoted cell growth that is defined by sequential transcriptional activation of NFAT and c-Myc factors.
