Bioconversion of waste paper to ethanol
Morris Wayman,Shu Chen,Kim Doan +2 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a preferred process for efficient bioconversion of waste paper to ethanol was described for efficient waste paper processing and a new fermenter design well suited for waste paperprocessing or for cellulase production was described.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cellulase production induced by carbon sources derived from waste newspaper
Shu Chen,Morris Wayman +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the cellulases induced by 1 g partially saccharified newspaper were used for cellulase production, and a total yield of 10−11 g fermentable sugars was obtained, from a total of 16 g office paper.
Journal ArticleDOI
Novel inducers derived from starch for cellulase production by Trichoderma reesei
Shu Chen,Morris Wayman +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of calcium chloride and sorbose addition on cellulase production, and the kinetics of starch-derived inducers are presented, compared with that of pure cellulose, CMC, xylan and prehydrolysate of pine wood.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cellulase production by Trichoderma reesei using whole wheat flour as a carbon source
Morris Wayman,Shu Chen +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the feasibility of elimination of additional nutrients and elimination of pH control for cellulase production by T. reesei using wheat hydrolyzates as substrate was examined, and the cellulase so produced after 6 days of fermentation, with supplementation of 1% (0.01 ml g -1 paper) β-glucosidase, saccharified 13 g shredded waste office paper in 9.34% suspension.
Journal ArticleDOI
Use of sorbose to enhance cellobiase activity in a Trichoderma reesei cellulase system produced on wheat hydrolysate
Shu Chen,Morris Wayman +1 more
TL;DR: Several methods were investigated for increasing cellobiase activity of T. reesei cellulases produced using an acid-hydrolyzed wheat flour, and the use of sorbose in cellulase production is preferred to mixed cultures with Aspergillus niger.
