The objective of this paper is to give a comprehensive introduction to applied cryptography with an engineer or computer scientist in mind. The emphasis is on the knowledge needed to create practical systems which supports integrity, confidentiality, or authenticity. Topics covered includes an introduction to the concepts in cryptography, attacks against cryptographic systems, key use and handling, random bit generation, encryption modes, and message authentication codes. Recommendations on algorithms and further reading is given in the end of the paper. This paper should make the reader able to build, understand and evaluate system descriptions and designs based on the cryptographic components described in the paper.

In this paper, the analysis of recent advances in genetic algorithms is discussed. The genetic algorithms of great interest in research community are selected for analysis. This review will help the new and demanding researchers to provide the wider vision of genetic algorithms. The well-known algorithms and their implementation are presented with their pros and cons. The genetic operators and their usages are discussed with the aim of facilitating new researchers. The different research domains involved in genetic algorithms are covered. The future research directions in the area of genetic operators, fitness function and hybrid algorithms are discussed. This structured review will be helpful for research and graduate teaching.

An eye tracking technology provides a faster and more intuitive interface to explore the learner psychology. In this paper, with the aim of assisting researcher to expand the knowledge of video lectures, we present an efficient system named VLEYE based on eye tracking. The system allows gathering the dynamic areas of interest (AOIs) and combining them with eye movement data. There are mainly three modules in the proposed system, including “eye movement recorder,” “dynamic AOI module,” and “video analyzer.” The “eye movement recorder” records the eye movement data by eye tracking device, where mouse cursor control function is applied to support the use of low-cost devices. The AOIs could be drawn manually or detected and tracked by the provided algorithm automatically in the “dynamic AOI module.” The “video analyzer” provides various visualization modes to view and compare the eye movement information for single or multiple subject, as well as statistical charts and detail fixation information. In addition to performance testing, a case study was conducted to verify the applicability of the proposed system. We demonstrate that this system works well and is an essential step forward in efficiently helping studies to better understand learner cognitive processes for dynamic stimuli within video.

A Complete System for Analysis of Video Lecture Based on Eye Tracking

Although wireless networks and mobile devices become popular these days, the diversity of mobile devices and unsteadiness of wireless networks still cause software development much trouble. Thus, when developing a mobile application, developers are forced to expose to these problems and to be familiar with these technologies and therefore it will spend a lot of time to write a mobile application. Furthermore, a mobile application often needs to be ported to different platform (for example from Java to .NET) which is also burdensome. In order to overcome these problems, the author proposes an adaptive framework to help developers build mobile application effortlessly and rapidly. The mobile application developed on this framework can run in different devices and operating system, so developers does not need to worry about portability. As a result, a mobile application developed on this framework can enjoy the benefit of “write once, run everywhere, and access any services.”

An adaptive mobile application development framework

This study presents efficient vision-based finger detection, tracking, and event identification techniques and a low-cost hardware framework for multi-touch sensing and display applications. The proposed approach uses a fast bright-blob segmentation process based on automatic multilevel histogram thresholding to extract the pixels of touch blobs obtained from scattered infrared lights captured by a video camera. The advantage of this automatic multilevel thresholding approach is its robustness and adaptability when dealing with various ambient lighting conditions and spurious infrared noises. To extract the connected components of these touch blobs, a connected-component analysis procedure is applied to the bright pixels acquired by the previous stage. After extracting the touch blobs from each of the captured image frames, a blob tracking and event recognition process analyzes the spatial and temporal information of these touch blobs from consecutive frames to determine the possible touch events and actions performed by users. This process also refines the detection results and corrects for errors and occlusions caused by noise and errors during the blob extraction process. The proposed blob tracking and touch event recognition process includes two phases. First, the phase of blob tracking associates the motion correspondence of blobs in succeeding frames by analyzing their spatial and temporal features. The touch event recognition process can identify meaningful touch events based on the motion information of touch blobs, such as finger moving, rotating, pressing, hovering, and clicking actions. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed vision-based finger detection, tracking, and event identification system is feasible and effective for multi-touch sensing applications in various operational environments and conditions.

Ethereum smart contract makes developers can deploy decentralized applications to inherit features from blockchain, such as decentralization and openness. Although Ethereum provided a decentralized platform, Ethereum Virtual Machine for smart contracts, it lacks of ability to fetch off-chain data. The general solution is Oracle data carrier. However, Oracle results in rising deployment costs. It requires Ethereum smart contract developers to follow format in programing contract, this constraint decreases the readability of smart contract. This paper proposes an off-chain data fetching architecture which is cost-effective and highly elastic for smart contract. It also compatible with exited contract, which makes Ethereum smart contract owner able to automate the reply process.
