Journal ArticleDOI

A lung computed tomographic assessment of positive end-expiratory pressure- induced lung overdistension

TL;DR: In conclusion, overdistended lung parenchyma of healthy volunteers is characterized by a CT number below -900 HU, which can be used in patients with ALI for differentiating PEEP-induced alveolar recruitment from lung overdistension.
Journal ArticleDOI

The epidemiology of sepsis in Brazilian intensive care units (the Sepsis PREvalence Assessment Database, SPREAD): an observational study

Flávia Ribeiro Machado, +307 more
TL;DR: The results show the burden of sepsis in resource-limited settings, highlighting the need to establish programmes aiming for sepsi prevention, early diagnosis, and adequate treatment.
Journal ArticleDOI

A scanographic assessment of pulmonary morphology in acute lung injury. Significance of the lower inflection point detected on the lung pressure-volume curve.

TL;DR: In patients with an LIP, air and tissue are more homogeneously distributed within the lungs and increasing levels of PEEP result in additional alveolar recruitment without lung overdistention, whereas all other cardiorespiratory parameters were similar in the two groups.
