Electrochemical Aminoselenation and Oxyselenation of Styrenes with Hydrogen Evolution

This review highlights the preparation of sodium sulfinates (RSO2Na) and their multifaceted synthetic applications. Substantial progress has been made over the last decade in the utilization of sodium sulfinates emerging as sulfonylating, sulfenylating or sulfinylating reagents, depending on reaction conditions. Sodium sulfinates act as versatile building blocks for preparing many valuable organosulfur compounds through S–S, N–S, and C–S bond-forming reactions. Remarkable advancement has been made in synthesizing thiosulfonates, sulfonamides, sulfides, and sulfones, including vinyl sulfones, allyl sulfones, and β-keto sulfones. The significant achievement of developing sulfonyl radical-triggered ring-closing sulfonylation and multicomponent reactions is also thoroughly discussed. Of note, the most promising site-selective C–H sulfonylation, photoredox catalytic transformations and electrochemical synthesis of sodium sulfinates are also demonstrated. Holistically, this review provides a unique and comprehensive overview of sodium sulfinates, which summarizes 355 core references up to March 2020. The chemistry of sodium sulfinate salts is divided into several sections based on the classes of sulfur-containing compounds with some critical mechanistic insights that are also disclosed.

Hypervalent iodine reagents are of considerable relevance in organic chemistry as they can provide a complementary reaction strategy to the use of traditional transition metal chemistry. Over the past two decades, there have been an increasing number of applications including stoichiometric oxidation and catalytic asymmetric variations. This review outlines the main advances in the past 10 years in regard to alkene heterofunctionalization chemistry using achiral and chiral hypervalent iodine reagents and catalysts.

Alkene Difunctionalization Using Hypervalent Iodine Reagents: Progress and Developments in the Past Ten Years.

Aliphatic azides are a versatile class of compounds found in a variety of biologically active pharmaceuticals. These compounds are also recognized as useful precursors for the synthesis of a range of nitrogen-based scaffolds of therapeutic drugs, biologically active compounds, and functional materials. In light of the growing importance of aliphatic azides in both chemical and biological sciences, a vast array of synthetic strategies for the preparation of structurally diverse aliphatic azides have been developed over the past decades. However, to date, this topic has not been the subject of a dedicated review. This review aims to provide a concise overview of modern synthetic strategies to access aliphatic azides that have emerged since 2010. The discussed azidation reactions include (a) azidation of C-C multiple bonds, (b) azidation of C-H bonds, (c) the direct transformation of vinyl azides into other aliphatic azides, and (d) miscellaneous reactions to access aliphatic azides. We critically discuss the synthetic outcomes and the generality and uniqueness of the different mechanistic rationale of each of the selected reactions. The challenges and potential opportunities of the topic are outlined.

a new and convenient procedure has been developed for the preparation of sulfonamides from sodium sulfinates and amines with ( n -C 4 H 9 ) 4 NBr as bromine source and m -chloroperbenzoic acid as oxidant. This S–N bond formation reaction proceeds efficiently via sulfonyl bromides under neutral conditions to afford the corresponding sulfonamides in good yields at room temperature.
