Ultralow Emittance, Multi-MeV Proton Beams from a Laser Virtual-Cathode Plasma Accelerator
Thomas E. Cowan,Thomas E. Cowan,Julien Fuchs,Julien Fuchs,Julien Fuchs,H. Ruhl,H. Ruhl,Andreas Kemp,Andreas Kemp,Patrick Audebert,Markus Roth,Richard B. Stephens,I. Barton,Abel Blazevic,E. Brambrink,J. Cobble,Juan C. Fernández,J. C. Gauthier,M. Geissel,Manuel Hegelich,J. L. Kaae,Stefan Karsch,G. P. Le Sage,Samuel A. Letzring,M. Manclossi,S. Meyroneinc,A. Newkirk,Henri Pépin,N. Renard-LeGalloudec +28 more
TL;DR: The laminarity of high-current multi-MeV proton beams produced by irradiating thin metallic foils with ultraintense lasers has been measured and appears to be at least 100-fold better than conventional accelerator beams.
Journal ArticleDOI
High harmonic generation in the relativistic limit
Brendan Dromey,Matthew Zepf,A. Gopal,Kate Lancaster,Mingsheng Wei,Karl Krushelnick,Michael Tatarakis,N. Vakakis,S. D. Moustaizis,Ryosuke Kodama,Motonobu Tampo,Christian Stoeckl,R. J. Clarke,H. Habara,D. Neely,Stefan Karsch,Peter Norreys +16 more
TL;DR: In this article, the first experimental demonstration of high harmonic generation in the relativistic limit was obtained on the Vulcan Petawatt laser, achieving high conversion efficiencies (η>10−6 per harmonic) and bright emission (>1022 photons s−1 mm−2 mrad−2 (0.1% bandwidth)) at wavelengths <4nm.
Journal ArticleDOI
MeV Ion Jets from Short-Pulse-Laser Interaction with Thin Foils
Manuel Hegelich,Stefan Karsch,Georg Pretzler,D. Habs,Klaus Witte,W. Guenther,Matthew Allen,Abel Blazevic,Julien Fuchs,Jean-Claude Gauthier,M. Geissel,Patrick Audebert,Thomas E. Cowan,Markus Roth +13 more
TL;DR: Collimated jets of carbon and fluorine ions are observed from the rear surface of thin foils irradiated with laser intensities of up to 5 x 10 (19)W/cm(2), which inhibits screening effects and permits effective energy transfer and acceleration of other ion species.
Journal ArticleDOI
Laser-driven soft-X-ray undulator source
Matthias Fuchs,Raphael Weingartner,Antonia Popp,Zsuzsanna Major,Stefan Becker,Jens Osterhoff,Isabella Cortrie,Benno Zeitler,Rainer Hörlein,George D. Tsakiris,Ulrich Schramm,Tom P. Rowlands-Rees,Simon M. Hooker,D. Habs,Ferenc Krausz,Stefan Karsch,Florian Grüner +16 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors demonstrate the generation of soft X-ray undulator radiation with laser-plasma-accelerated electron beams using a 30-cm-long undulator and a 1.5 cm-long accelerator.
Journal ArticleDOI
Shock-Front Injector for High-Quality Laser-Plasma Acceleration
Alexander Buck,Johannes Wenz,J. Xu,Konstantin Khrennikov,Karl Schmid,Matthias Heigoldt,Julia M. Mikhailova,Michael Geissler,B. Shen,Ferenc Krausz,Stefan Karsch,Laszlo Veisz +11 more
TL;DR: Stable and tunable electron bunches with very low absolute energy spread accelerated in laser wakefields via injection and trapping at a sharp downward density jump produced by a shock front in a supersonic gas flow are reported.
