Journal ArticleDOI
Dual infection of the central nervous system by AIDS viruses with distinct cellular tropisms.
Yoshio Koyanagi,Steven A. Miles,Ronald T. Mitsuyasu,Jean E. Merrill,Harry V. Vinters,Irvin S. Y. Chen +5 more
TL;DR: Results indicate that genetic variation of HIV in vivo may result in altered cell tropisms and possibly implicate strains of HIV with glial cell tropism in the pathogenesis of some neurologic disorders of AIDS.
Journal ArticleDOI
Tivantinib for second-line treatment of advanced hepatocellular carcinoma: A randomised, placebo-controlled phase 2 study
Armando Santoro,Lorenza Rimassa,Ivan Borbath,Bruno Daniele,Stefania Salvagni,Jean-Luc Van Laethem,Hans Van Vlierberghe,Jörg Trojan,Frank T. Kolligs,Alan Weiss,Steven A. Miles,Antonio Gasbarrini,Monica Lencioni,Luca Cicalese,Morris Sherman,Cesare Gridelli,Peter Buggisch,Guido Gerken,Roland M. Schmid,Corrado Boni,Nicola Personeni,Ziad Hassoun,Giovanni Abbadessa,Brian Schwartz,Reinhard von Roemeling,Maria Lamar,Yinpu Chen,Camillo Porta +27 more
TL;DR: Tivantinib could provide an option for second-line treatment of patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma and well-compensated liver cirrhosis, particularly for patients with MET-high tumours.
Journal ArticleDOI
High levels of unintegrated HIV-1 DNA in brain tissue of AIDS dementia patients
Shen Pang,Yoshio Koyanagi,Steven A. Miles,Clayton A. Wiley,Harry V. Vinters,Irvin S. Y. Chen +5 more
TL;DR: The results indicate that each of the three species of viral DNA are detectable in blood and brain of AIDS patients and that in autopsy samples from patients with HIV encephalitis there is a considerably higher proportion of unintegrated viral DNA.
Journal ArticleDOI
Recombinant human erythropoietin for patients with AIDS treated with zidovudine.
Margaret A. Fischl,Jeffrey E. Galpin,James D. Levine,Jerome E. Groopman,David H. Henry,Peter Kennedy,Steven A. Miles,William J. Robbins,Barbara Starrett,Ralph Zalusky,Robert I. Abels,Huei C. Tsai,Seth A. Rudnick +12 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that recombinant human erythropoietin may be useful in patients with AIDS treated with zidovudine, although the indicators for its use remain to be clarified.
Journal ArticleDOI
Oncostatin M as a potent mitogen for AIDS-Kaposi's sarcoma-derived cells.
Steven A. Miles,Otoniel Martinez-Maza,Ahmad Rezai,Larry Magpantay,Taditnitsu Kishimoto,S Nakamura,Susan F. Radka,Peter S. Linsley +7 more
TL;DR: Results suggest that Oncostatin M may play a role in the pathogenesis of AIDS-KS, a disease of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome-related Kaposi's sarcoma.
