The FIELDS Instrument Suite for Solar Probe Plus: Measuring the Coronal Plasma and Magnetic Field, Plasma Waves and Turbulence, and Radio Signatures of Solar Transients.

Stuart D. Bale, +83 more
TL;DR: The scientific objectives targeted by the SPP/FIELDS instrument, the instrument design itself, and the instrument concept of operations and planned data products are described.
Journal ArticleDOI

WIND observations of coherent electrostatic waves in the solar wind

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors analyzed observations made in the solar wind near the Lagrange point L1 and observed three kinds of electrostatic (e.g., coherent wave packets of Langmuir waves with frequencies f ~ fpe, coherent wave packet with frequencies in the ion acoustic range fpi f ~ 25λD, there is a small but finite electric potential drop, implying an average electric field generally directed away from the Sun.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Electric Antennas for the STEREO/WAVES Experiment

TL;DR: The STEREO/WAVES experiment is designed to measure the electric component of radio emission from interplanetary radio bursts and in situ plasma waves and fluctuations in the solar wind as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI

Further laboratory measurements of the beam-plasma discharge.

TL;DR: In this paper, the beam-plasma discharge (BPD) produced when an energetic electron beam traverses an initially neutral gas was investigated. But the results showed that the critical beam current is related to energy, magnetic field, and the system length by an empirical relationship at pressures below 2 times 10 to the -5th power torr.
