Journal ArticleDOI
American clinical neurophysiology society standardized EEG terminology and categorization for the description of continuous EEG monitoring in neonates: report of the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society critical care monitoring committee.
Tammy N. Tsuchida,Courtney J. Wusthoff,Renée A. Shellhaas,Nicholas S. Abend,Cecil D. Hahn,Joseph Sullivan,Sylvie Nguyen,Steven R. Weinstein,Mark S. Scher,James J. Riviello,Robert R. Clancy +10 more
TL;DR: Critically ill neonates are at high risk for adverse neurologic sequelae, but the bedside evaluation of a neonate's neurologic status, especially cortical functioning, is extremely limited, and continuous video EEG provides particularly useful information about brain function.
Journal ArticleDOI
Brain chirps: spectrographic signatures of epileptic seizures
Steven J. Schiff,Steven J. Schiff,David Colella,Gary M Jacyna,Elizabeth Hughes,Joseph W. Creekmore,Angela Marshall,Angela Marshall,Maribeth Bozek-Kuzmicki,George Benke,William D. Gaillard,William D. Gaillard,Joan A. Conry,Joan A. Conry,Steven R. Weinstein,Steven R. Weinstein +15 more
TL;DR: Chirps are highly specific and sensitive spectrographic signatures of epileptic seizure activity and may serve as templates for matched filter design to detect seizures, and as such, can demonstrate localization and propagation of seizures from an epileptic focus.
Journal ArticleDOI
Seizure control following tumor surgery for childhood cortical low-grade gliomas.
Roger J. Packer,Leslie N. Sutton,Kantilal M. Patel,Ann-Christine Duhaime,Steven J. Schiff,Steven R. Weinstein,William D. Gaillard,Joan A. Conry,Luis Schut +8 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that seizure control can be obtained 2 years following tumor surgery in the majority of children with presumed tumors after extensive tumor resection without concomitant EEG monitoring or electrocortical mapping.
Journal ArticleDOI
The anticonvulsant effect of electrical fields.
TL;DR: The use of brain stimulation for treatment of epilepsy is reviewed, but also cites instances where the antithetical results occur, with the greatest detail focuses on disrupting the onset or shortening the seizure.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cerebral Hemorrhage and Vasospasm in a Child with Congenital Heart Disease
Jessica L. Carpenter,Jessica L. Carpenter,Robert F. Keating,Robert F. Keating,Steven R. Weinstein,Steven R. Weinstein,Gilbert Vezina,Gilbert Vezina,John T. Berger,John T. Berger,Michael J. Bell,Michael J. Bell +11 more
TL;DR: A case of cerebral vasospasm in a child with structural congenital heart disease after a cerebral hemorrhage is reported, illustrating that this rare occurrence must be swiftly recognized and treated in order to maximize clinical outcome.
