Consensus statement on continuous EEG in critically ill adults and children, part I: indications.
Susan T. Herman,Nicholas S. Abend,Thomas P. Bleck,Kevin E. Chapman,Frank W. Drislane,Ronald G. Emerson,Elizabeth E. Gerard,Cecil D. Hahn,Aatif M. Husain,Aatif M. Husain,Peter W. Kaplan,Suzette M. LaRoche,Marc R. Nuwer,Mark Quigg,James J. Riviello,Sarah E. Schmitt,Liberty A. Simmons,Tammy Tsuchida,Lawrence J. Hirsch +18 more
TL;DR: CCEEG has an important role in detection of secondary injuries such as seizures and ischemia in critically ill adults and children with altered mental status.
Journal ArticleDOI
The American Clinical Neurophysiology Society's Guideline on Continuous Electroencephalography Monitoring in Neonates.
Renée A. Shellhaas,Taeun Chang,Tammy Tsuchida,Mark S. Scher,James J. Riviello,Nicholas S. Abend,Sylvie Nguyen,Courtney J. Wusthoff,Robert R. Clancy +8 more
TL;DR: This article offers the preferred methods and indications for longterm, conventional electroencephalography (EEG) monitoring for selected, high-risk neonates of postmenstrual age less than 48 weeks.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: In the early 2000s, a subcommittee of the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society (ACNS) set out to standardize terminology of periodic and rhythmic EEG patterns in the critically ill to aid in future research involving such patterns as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI
Proposed consensus definitions for new-onset refractory status epilepticus (NORSE), febrile infection-related epilepsy syndrome (FIRES), and related conditions.
Lawrence J. Hirsch,Nicolas Gaspard,Andreas van Baalen,Rima Nabbout,Sophie Demeret,Tobias Loddenkemper,Vincent Navarro,Nicola Specchio,Lieven Lagae,Andrea O. Rossetti,Sara E. Hocker,Teneille Gofton,Nicholas S. Abend,Emily J. Gilmore,Cecil D. Hahn,Houman Khosravani,Houman Khosravani,Felix Rosenow,Eugen Trinka +18 more
TL;DR: An international group of experts were convened to standardize definitions of New‐Onset Refractory Status Epilepticus (NORSE), Febrile Infection‐Related Epilepsy Syndrome (FIRES), and related conditions to enable improved communication for investigators, physicians, families, patients, and other caregivers.
Journal ArticleDOI
American clinical neurophysiology society standardized EEG terminology and categorization for the description of continuous EEG monitoring in neonates: report of the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society critical care monitoring committee.
Tammy N. Tsuchida,Courtney J. Wusthoff,Renée A. Shellhaas,Nicholas S. Abend,Cecil D. Hahn,Joseph Sullivan,Sylvie Nguyen,Steven R. Weinstein,Mark S. Scher,James J. Riviello,Robert R. Clancy +10 more
TL;DR: Critically ill neonates are at high risk for adverse neurologic sequelae, but the bedside evaluation of a neonate's neurologic status, especially cortical functioning, is extremely limited, and continuous video EEG provides particularly useful information about brain function.
