Journal ArticleDOI

Evaluating renewable carbon sources as substrates for single cell oil production by Cunninghamella echinulata and Mortierella isabellina.

TL;DR: Significant differences in the process of lipid accumulation as related to the carbon sources used were observed for both microorganisms, and the growth of both C. echinulata and M. isabellina on raw glycerol resulted in lower yields in terms of both biomass and oil produced than the growth on xylose.
Journal ArticleDOI

Metabolic activities of biotechnological interest in Yarrowia lipolytica grown on glycerol in repeated batch cultures

TL;DR: This study allows concluding that Y. lipolytica successfully converts glycerol via phosphorylation pathway into valuable biotechnological products, such as single cell oil and citric acid.
Journal ArticleDOI

Citric acid production by Yarrowia lipolytica cultivated on olive-mill wastewater-based media

TL;DR: Yarrowia lipolytica ACA-DC 50109 cultivated on olive-mill wastewater, enriched with commercial-industrial glucose, presented an efficient cell growth and the potentiality of O.M.W.Ws utilisation in the fermentation process of citric acid production is suggested.
Journal ArticleDOI

Lipid production by oleaginous Mucorales cultivated on renewable carbon sources

TL;DR: Hydrolytic enzymes activities of both strains seemed to be low enough to saturate their metabolic capabilities, which seemed a major cause for the lower amount of lipid accumulated during growth on complex media compared with that on glucose.
