Fast ignition relevant study of the flux of high intensity laser-generated electrons via a hollow cone into a laser-imploded plasma
M. H. Key,J.C. Adam,Kramer Akli,Marco Borghesi,M. H. Chen,Roger Evans,Richard R. Freeman,Hideaki Habara,S. P. Hatchett,J. M. Hill,Anne Héron,J. A. King,Ryosuke Kodama,Kate Lancaster,A. J. Mackinnon,P. K. Patel,T. W. Phillips,Lorenzo Romagnani,R. A. Snavely,Richard B. Stephens,Christian Stoeckl,Richard Town,Yusuke Toyama,B. Zhang,Matthew Zepf,Peter Norreys +25 more
TL;DR: In this article, a deuterated polymer spherical shell target with an inserted hollow Au cone is imploded by a six-beam 900-J, 1-ns laser and the flux of high energy electrons through the imploded material is determined from the yield of CuKα fluorescence by comparison with a Monte Carlo model.
Journal ArticleDOI
Studies on the transport of high intensity laser-generated hot electrons in cone coupled wire targets
J. A. King,Kramer Akli,Richard R. Freeman,James Green,S. P. Hatchett,D. S. Hey,P. Jamangi,M. H. Key,J. A. Koch,Kate Lancaster,Tammy Ma,A. J. Mackinnon,Andrew MacPhee,Peter Norreys,P. K. Patel,T. W. Phillips,Richard B. Stephens,W. Theobald,Richard Town,L. D. Van Woerkom,B. Zhang,F. N. Beg +21 more
TL;DR: In this article, a 500 J, 1 ps laser was focused at f/3 into hollow aluminum cones joined at their tip to Cu wires of diameters from 10 to 40 µm.
Journal ArticleDOI
Direct-drive cryogenic target implosion performance on OMEGA
P. W. McKenty,T. C. Sangster,M. Alexander,Riccardo Betti,R. S. Craxton,J. A. Delettrez,L. M. Elasky,Ronald M. Epstein,Adam Frank,V. Yu. Glebov,Valeri Goncharov,D. R. Harding,S. Jin,J. P. Knauer,R. L. TL;DR: Boehly et al. as mentioned in this paper demonstrated a high neutron-averaged fuel ρR at a significant fraction of the predicted one-dimensional (1-D) neutron yield using an energy-scaled, low-adiabat (α∼3) ignition pulse shape driving a hydrodynamically scaled deuterium-tritium ignition capsule.
Journal ArticleDOI
Petawatt laser system and experiments
Deanna Marie Pennington,Curtis G. Brown,Thomas E. Cowan,S. P. Hatchett,E. A. Henry,S. Herman,Michael W. Kartz,M. H. Key,Jeffrey A. Koch,A. J. Mackinnon,Michael D. Perry,T. W. Phillips,Markus Roth,T. C. Sangster,M. S. Singh,R. A. Snavely,M. A. Stoyer,Brent C. Stuart,Scott Wilks +18 more
TL;DR: In this article, a hybrid Ti:sapphire-nd:glass laser system was developed, which produced up to 680 J of energy on target at 1054 nm in a compressed 440/spl plusmn/20-fs pulse by use of 94-cm diffraction gratings.
Journal ArticleDOI
Characteristics of high energy Kα and Bremsstrahlung sources generated by short pulse petawatt lasers
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors measured the characteristics of high energy Kα sources created with the Vulcan Petawatt laser at RAL and the JanUSP laser at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.
