Journal ArticleDOI

Fracture mechanics and surface chemistry studies of fatigue crack growth in an aluminum alloy

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the influence of water vapor on fatigue crack growth in aluminum alloys and showed that at a frequency of 5 Hz, the rate of crack growth is essentially unaffected by water vapor until a threshold pressure.
Journal ArticleDOI

Rate controlling processes for crack growth in hydrogen sulfide for an alsl 4340 steel

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the kinetics of subcritical crack growth in high strength steels with high purity hydrogen sulfide and found that the rate of crack growth is controlled by the diffusion of hydrogen into the steel ahead of the crack tip and exhibits an apparent activation energy of about 5 kJ/mol.
