Leprosy Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (LPEP) programme: study protocol for evaluating the feasibility and impact on case detection rates of contact tracing and single dose rifampicin.
Tanja Barth-Jaeggi,Tanja Barth-Jaeggi,Peter Steinmann,Peter Steinmann,Liesbeth Mieras,Wim H. van Brakel,Jan Hendrik Richardus,Anuj Tiwari,Martin W. Bratschi,Martin W. Bratschi,Arielle Cavaliero,Bart Vander Plaetse,Fareed Mirza,Ann Aerts +13 more

TL;DR: Post-exposure prophylaxis with SDR is safe; can be integrated into different leprosy control programmes with minimal additional efforts once contact tracing has been established; and is generally well accepted by index patients, their contacts, and health-care workers.
Journal ArticleDOI
Operational and implementation research within Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria grants : a situation analysis in six countries
Sabine Kiefer,Sabine Kiefer,Astrid M. Knoblauch,Astrid M. Knoblauch,Peter Steinmann,Peter Steinmann,Tanja Barth-Jaeggi,Tanja Barth-Jaeggi,Mahnaz Vahedi,Dermot Maher,Jürg Utzinger,Jürg Utzinger,Kaspar Wyss,Kaspar Wyss +13 more
TL;DR: The importance of OR/IR for optimising disease control programmes is generally accepted but countries vary in their capacity to demand and implement studies, and the Global Fund is expected to issue more specific guidance on the conditions under which it supports OR/ IR.
Journal ArticleDOI

Retrospective active case finding in Cambodia: An innovative approach to leprosy control in a low-endemic country
Thomas Fürst,Thomas Fürst,Thomas Fürst,Arielle Cavaliero,Sambath Lay,Chrystel Dayer,Saren Chan,Ajda Smrekar,Visal So,Tanja Barth-Jaeggi,Tanja Barth-Jaeggi,Peter Steinmann,Peter Steinmann +12 more
TL;DR: It appears that RACF is a feasible option and effective in detecting new leprosy patients among contacts of previously registered patients, however, a well-maintained nationalLeprosy database is essential for successful contact tracing and passive case detection is a precondition for efficient RACf as the two systems are mutually enhancing.
