A new phylum of Archaea represented by a nanosized hyperthermophilic symbiont
Harald Huber,Michael J. Hohn,Reinhard Rachel,Tanja Fuchs,Tanja Fuchs,Verena C. Wimmer,Karl O. Stetter +6 more
TL;DR: The cultivation of a new nanosized hyperthermophilic archaeon from a submarine hot vent is reported, which will provide insight into the evolution of thermophily, of tiny genomes and of interspecies communication.
Journal ArticleDOI
Metallosphaera prunae, sp. nov., a novel metal-mobilizing, thermoacidophilic Archaeum, isolated from a uranium mine in Germany
TL;DR: In this paper, a coccoid thermoacidophilic metal-mobilizing archaeum has been isolated from a smoldering slag heap of a uranium mine in Thuringen, Germany.
Journal ArticleDOI
Archaeoglobus veneficus sp. nov., a novel facultative chemolithoautotrophic hyperthermophilic sulfite reducer, isolated from abyssal black smokers
TL;DR: Four hyperthermophilic isolates of motile, highly irregular archaeal cocci were obtained from the walls of active “black smokers” at the Mid-Atlantic Ridge and one isolate was identified as a new species of the genus Archaeoglobus, which is named ArchaeoglOBus veneficus (type strain: SNP6; DSM 11195).
Journal ArticleDOI
16S rDNA-based Phylogeny of the Archaeal Order Sulfolobales and Reclassification of Desulfurolobus ambivalens as Acidianus ambivalens comb. nov.
TL;DR: A 16S rDNA-based phylogenetic analysis of 12 thermoacidophilic members of Archaea demonstrates the Sulfolobales to be a monophyletic group within the Crenarchaeota as mentioned in this paper.
