Journal ArticleDOI
Evaluation of radionuclides transfer from soil-to-edible flora and estimation of radiological dose to the Malaysian populace.
Mayeen Uddin Khandaker,Noor Liyana Mohd Nasir,Kh. Asaduzzaman,Michael Adekunle Olatunji,Yusoff Mohd Amin,Hasan Abu Kassim,D.A. Bradley,P.J. Jojo,Tareq Alrefae +8 more
TL;DR: Quantification of naturally occurring radionuclides in common edible vegetables and their associated soils using HPGe γ-ray spectrometry shows that the prevalent activities and mobilities pose no significant threat to human health, the edible vegetables being safe for consumption.
Journal ArticleDOI
Assessment of natural radioactivity and gamma-ray dose in monazite rich black Sand Beach of Penang Island, Malaysia.
TL;DR: With the exception of Miami Bay, considered an elevated background radiation area that would benefit from regular monitoring, Penang island beach sands typically pose no significant radiological risk to the local populace and tourists visiting the leisure beaches.
Journal ArticleDOI
Longitudinal magnetic resonance imaging of spinal cord injury in mouse: changes in signal patterns associated with the inflammatory response
Mehmet Bilgen,Baraa Al-Hafez,Tareq Alrefae,Yong-Yu He,Irina V. Smirnova,M. M. Aldur,Barry W. Festoff,Barry W. Festoff +7 more
TL;DR: This new injury with diffuse characteristics may have important implications for SCI research carried out with mice and unique experiments on genetically engineered mice with altered neuroinflammatory response should help clarify the origin of these differences in the lesion formation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Radioactivity of long lived gamma emitters in rice consumed in Kuwait
TL;DR: In this article, a study of long-lived gamma emitting radionuclides in rice consumed in Kuwait was performed and the results showed that rice consumption in Kuwait is radiologically safe for the presence of the investigated radions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Investigation of 238U content in bottled water consumed in Kuwait and estimates of annual effective doses.
TL;DR: A study of the 238U content in bottled water consumed in Kuwait was performed and it was found that the doses received by all age groups were several of orders of magnitude below the guideline levels.
