Current status and recent research achievements in SiC/SiC composites
Yutai Katoh,Lance Lewis Snead,Charles H. Henager,Takashi Nozawa,Tatsuya Hinoki,Aljaž Iveković,Saša Novak,S.M. González de Vicente +7 more
TL;DR: The silicon carbide fiber-reinforced SiC/SiC composite system for fusion applications has seen a continual evolution from development a fundamental understanding of the material system and its behavior in a hostile irradiation environment to the current effort which is directed at a broad-based program of technology maturation program as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evaluation of neutron irradiated silicon carbide and silicon carbide composites
TL;DR: The effects of fast neutron irradiation on SiC and SiC composites have been studied in this paper, where a statistically significant population of flexural samples were irradiated up to 4.6 × 1025 n/m2 (E < 0.1 ) at 300, 500, and 800 °C in the High Flux Isotope Reactor at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
Journal ArticleDOI
Radiation-tolerant joining technologies for silicon carbide ceramics and composites
Yutai Katoh,Lance Lewis Snead,Ting Cheng,Chunghao Shih,W. Daniel Lewis,Takaaki Koyanagi,Tatsuya Hinoki,Charles H. Henager,Monica Ferraris +8 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a standardized methodology for carrying out joint testing has been established consistent with the small volume samples mandated by neutron irradiation testing, and significant progress made towards identifying and processing irradiation-tolerant joining methods for nuclear-grade SiC.
Journal ArticleDOI
Recent advances and issues in development of silicon carbide composites for fusion applications
Takashi Nozawa,Tatsuya Hinoki,Akira Hasegawa,Akira Kohyama,Yutai Katoh,Lance Lewis Snead,Charles H. Henager,J. B. J. Hegeman +7 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of high-temperature neutron irradiation on microstructural evolution, thermal and electrical conductivities and mechanical properties including the fiber/matrix interfacial strength are specified under various irradiation conditions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of geometrical parameters in micro-grooved crosshatch pattern under lubricated sliding friction
TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of geometrical parameters on friction were mainly examined in mixed and elastohydrodynamic lubrication, and the results show that friction control can be achieved by fabricating the micro-grooved crosshatch pattern on a contact surface.
