Journal ArticleDOI
The effect of windstress change on future sea level change in the Southern Ocean
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigate whether changes in windstress can explain the different patterns of projected sea level change, especially the Southern Ocean feature, using two AOGCMs forced by the changes in westerly windstress from the CMIP3 and CMIP5.
The potential for abrupt change in the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation.

Journal ArticleDOI
The influence of eddy parameterizations on the transport of the Antarctic Circumpolar Current in coupled climate models
TL;DR: In this article, the authors show that a large fraction of this across-model variance can be explained by relating it to the parameterization of eddy-induced transports, which is based on the study by Gent and McWilliams (1990).
Journal ArticleDOI
Spin-up of UK Earth System Model 1 (UKESM1) for CMIP6
Andrew Yool,Julien Palmieri,Colin Jones,Alistair Sellar,L. de Mora,Till Kuhlbrodt,Ekaterina Popova,Jane Mulcahy,Andy Wiltshire,S. T. Rumbold,Marc Stringer,Richard Hill,Yongming Tang,Jeremy Walton,Adam T. Blaker,A. J. G. Nurser,Andrew C. Coward,Joël J.-M. Hirschi,S. Woodward,Douglas I. Kelley,Richard J. Ellis,S. Rumbold‐Jones,S. Rumbold‐Jones +22 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe the protocol used to spin up the UK Earth system model (UKESM1) with respect to pre-industrial forcing for use in the 6th Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP6).
Journal ArticleDOI
Homoclinic bifurcation in an ocean circulation box model
TL;DR: The qualitative behavior of a conceptual ocean box model is investigated, which is a paradigmatic model of the thermohaline ocean circulation of the Atlantic.
