Journal ArticleDOI
Structural-electronic relationships in inorganic solids: powder neutron diffraction studies of the rutile and anatase polymorphs of titanium dioxide at 15 and 295 K
TL;DR: Rietveld analysis of time-of-flight pulsed neutron diffraction of powders shows a nearly isotropic shrinkage of the structures of both the rutile and anatase polymorphs of TiO/sub 2/ upon cooling from 295 to 15 K.
Journal ArticleDOI
Chains of trans‐edge‐sharing molybdenum octahedra: metal‐metal bonding in extended systems
Timothy Hughbanks,Roald Hoffmann +1 more
Journal ArticleDOI
Symmetric vs. asymmetric linear M-X-M linkages in molecules, polymers, and extended networks.
Ralph A. Wheeler,Myung-Hwan Whangbo,Timothy Hughbanks,Roald Hoffmann,Jeremy K. Burdett,Thomas A. Albright +5 more
TL;DR: Linear M-X-M linkages in which X is a nitride, oxide, or halide commonly occur in dimers, square tetramers, one-dimensional polymers, and extended three-dimensional solids.
Journal ArticleDOI
Molybdenum Chalcogenides: Clusters, Chains, and Extended Solids. The Approach to Bonding in Three Dimensions
Timothy Hughbanks,Roald Hoffmann +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, a combined molecular orbital and crystal orbital analysis of systems containing Mo/sub 3n/X/Sub 3n + 2/ (n = 2,3,4,infinity; X=S,Se,Te) units is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
Magnetic coupling in dinuclear Gd complexes
Lindsay E. Roy,Timothy Hughbanks +1 more
TL;DR: Calculated magnetic coupling constants for the carboxylate-bridged structures are in good agreement with experimental data, confirming the ability of the broken symmetry approach used in this work to predict magnetic behavior in such compounds.
