High duty cycle inverse Compton scattering X-ray source
A. Ovodenko,R. Agustsson,M. Babzien,T. Campese,Mikhail Fedurin,Alex Murokh,Igor Pogorelsky,Mikhail Polyanskiy,James Rosenzweig,Y. Sakai,Timur Shaftan,C. Swinson +11 more
TL;DR: In this article, a high peak brightness ICS source operating in a burst mode at 40 MHz was demonstrated. But the performance of the burst-mode ICS system was limited to 5 and 15 pulses per train.
Journal ArticleDOI
A novel nondestructive diagnostic method for mega-electron-volt ultrafast electron diffraction.
Xi Yang,Junjie Li,Mikhail Fedurin,Victor Smaluk,L. H. Yu,Lijun Wu,Weishi Wan,Yimei Zhu,Timur Shaftan +8 more
TL;DR: A real-time, nondestructive, Bragg-diffracted electron beam energy, energy-spread and spatial-pointing jitter monitor is experimentally verified and enables online optimization of the electron beam especially for future high charge single-shot ultrafast electron diffraction (UED) and ultrafast microscopy (UEM) experiments.
First Results of the IOTA Ring Research at Fermilab
Alexander Valishev,Anatoli Arodzero,Daniel Broemmelsiek,David L. Bruhwiler,Alexey Burov,Kermit Carlson,Brandon Cathey,Subhasis Chattopadhyay,Nathan B. Eddy,Jonathan Edelen,Dean Edstrom,Aliaksei Halavanau,Christopher R. Hall,Michael Hofer,Zhirong Huang,Kilean Hwang,J. D. Jarvis,Kwang-Je Kim,Yongsun Kim,Nikita Kuklev,Valeri Lebedev,Ihar Lobach,Chad Mitchell,Alex Murokh,Sergei Nagaitsev,Henryk Piekarz,Alexander S. Romanov,Jinhao Ruan,M. Ruelas,Robert D. Ryne,James Santucci,Timur Shaftan,Vladimir Shiltsev,Giulio Stancari,Sebastian Szustkowski,Rogelio Tomas Garcia,Vitaly Yakimenko +36 more
TL;DR: The IOTA ring at Fermilab is a unique machine exclusively dedicated to accelerator beam physics R&D as discussed by the authors, which includes topics such as nonlinear integrable optics, suppression of coherent beam instabilities, optical stochastic cooling, and quantum science experiments.
Journal ArticleDOI
A compact tunable quadrupole lens for brighter and sharper ultra-fast electron diffraction imaging.
Xi Yang,L. H. Yu,Victor Smaluk,Guimei Wang,Yoshitreu Hidaka,Timur Shaftan,Lewis Doom,Danny Padrazo,Junjie Li,Mikhail Fedurin,Weishi Wan,Yimei Zhu +11 more
TL;DR: The proof-of-principle design and experimental commissioning of a broadly tunable and low-cost transverse focusing lens system for MeV-energy electron beams based on electromagnetic quadrupoles is reported, providing opportunities for new sciences using near-parallel, bright and ultrafast electron beams for single-shot imaging.
Journal ArticleDOI
Chirped pulse amplification of HGHG-FEL at DUV-FEL facility at BNL
A. Doyuran,Louis F. DiMauro,William Graves,R. Heese,Erik D. Johnson,Sam Krinsky,Henrik Loos,James B. Murphy,George Rakowsky,James Rose,Timur Shaftan,Brian Sheehy,Y. Shen,John Skaritka,Xijie Wang,Z. Wu,Li Hua Yu +16 more
TL;DR: The DUV-FEL facility has been in operation in the High Gain Harmonic Generation (HGHG) mode producing a 266-nm output from 177-MeV electrons for 1 year and preliminary results of the Chirped Pulse Amplification (CPA) of the HGHG radiation are presented.
