Dynamic shifts in the oral microbiome during radiotherapy

TL;DR: By monitoring the microbial shifts during therapy, the role of the microbiota can be further elucidated and treatment regimes can be adapted, increasing patients’ quality of life during therapy.
Journal ArticleDOI

8-prenylnaringenin and tamoxifen inhibit the shedding of irradiated epithelial cells and increase the latency period of radiation-induced oral mucositis

TL;DR: A role for 8-PN and TAM for the amelioration of radiation-induced mucositis in the treatment of head and neck tumors is suggested, and these compounds increase the latency period in the tongues of mice.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of Irradiation on Epithelial Wound Healing and Microbial Diversity in an in-vitro Oral Mucosa Model

TL;DR: An in vitro oral mucosa model shows an impact of irradiation on epithelial wound healing depending on the microbial composition and functionality and a slight increase in abundance of Rothia, Granulicatella and Gemella in the model after irradiation.
