Journal ArticleDOI
Peritoneal dialysis fluid inhibition of polymorphonuclear leukocyte respiratory burst activation is related to the lowering of intracellular pH.
Tomasz Liberek,Nicholas Topley,Achim Jörres,Meryl M. Petersen,Gerald A. Coles,Gerhard M. Gahl,J D Williams +6 more
TL;DR: It is postulate that the critical lowering of [pH]i in PMN, caused by the combination of high lactate concentration and low pH of the dialysis fluids, is responsible for the observed inhibition of respiratory burst activation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Peritoneal dialysis fluid inhibition of phagocyte function: effects of osmolality and glucose concentration.
TL;DR: Data indicate that, in addition to the low pH of peritoneal dialysis fluid and its high lactate concentration, its glucose content (either directly or as a consequence of the resulting hyperosmolality of the fluid) inhibits cell functional parameters.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of lactate-buffered peritoneal dialysis fluids on human peritoneal mesothelial cell interleukin-6 and prostaglandin synthesis
Janusz Witowski,Nicholas Topley,Achim Jörres,Tomasz Liberek,Gerald A. Coles,John D. Williams +5 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that short-term exposure to PDF pH 5.2 significantly inhibits HPMC cytokine and prostaglandin release, an effect which appears to be related to its initial pH.
Journal Article
Activation of inflammation and leukocyte recruitment into the peritoneal cavity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genistin-Rich Soy Isoflavone Extract in Substrate Reduction Therapy for Sanfilippo Syndrome: An Open-Label, Pilot Study in 10 Pediatric Patients
Ewa Piotrowska,Joanna Jakóbkiewicz-Banecka,Anna Tylki-Szymańska,Anna Liberek,Agnieszka Maryniak,Marcelina Malinowska,Barbara Czartoryska,Ewa Puk,Anna Kloska,Tomasz Liberek,Sylwia Barańska,Alicja Węgrzyn,Grzegorz Węgrzyn +12 more
TL;DR: This pilot study found some improvements in GAG concentration, hair morphology, and cognitive function in these pediatric patients with Sanfilippo syndrome treated with genistin-rich soy isoflavone extract for 1 year.
