Cardiovascular risk factors in 2011 and secular trends since 2007: The Cardiovascular Risk in Young Finns Study
Joel Nuotio,Mervi Oikonen,Costan G. Magnussen,Eero Jokinen,Tomi Laitinen,Nina Hutri-Kähönen,Mika Kähönen,Terho Lehtimäki,Leena Taittonen,Päivi Tossavainen,Antti Jula,Britt-Marie Loo,Jorma S. A. Viikari,Olli T. Raitakari,Markus Juonala +14 more
TL;DR: In the follow-up of the Cardiovascular Risk in Young Finns Study as mentioned in this paper, the LDL-cholesterol levels have leveled off among a sample of young and middle-aged adults in Finland.
Journal ArticleDOI
Alcohol consumption is directly associated with carotid intima-media thickness in Finnish young adults: the Cardiovascular Risk in Young Finns Study.
Markus Juonala,Jorma Viikari,Mika Kähönen,Tomi Laitinen,Leena Taittonen,Britt-Marie Loo,Antti Jula,Jukka Marniemi,Leena Räsänen,Tapani Rönnemaa,Olli T. Raitakari +10 more
TL;DR: A direct relationship between alcohol consumption and carotid IMT in young adults was found, independent of cardiovascular risk factors suggesting that in young healthy adults alcohol consumption may have pro-atherogenic effects.
Journal ArticleDOI
Youth Overweight and Metabolic Disturbances in Predicting Carotid Intima-Media Thickness, Type 2 Diabetes, and Metabolic Syndrome in Adulthood: The Cardiovascular Risk in Young Finns Study
Juha Koskinen,Costan G. Magnussen,Costan G. Magnussen,Matthew A. Sabin,Mika Kähönen,Nina Hutri-Kähönen,Tomi Laitinen,Leena Taittonen,Eero Jokinen,Terho Lehtimäki,Jorma S. A. Viikari,Olli T. Raitakari,Markus Juonala +12 more
TL;DR: While metabolic risk factors associated with overweight increase future risk for MetS, type 2 diabetes mellitus, T2DM, and increased IMT, overweight in isolation is also a risk factor and overweight should be prevented and treated wherever possible.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cellular phone use does not acutely affect blood pressure or heart rate of humans.
Kari U. O. Tahvanainen,Juanita Niño,Pirjo Halonen,Tom Kuusela,Tomi Laitinen,Esko Länsimies,Juha Hartikainen,Maila Hietanen,Harri Lindholm +8 more
TL;DR: The results of this study indicate that exposure to a cellular phone, using 900 MHz or 1800 MHz with maximal allowed antenna powers, does not acutely change arterial blood pressure and heart rate.
Journal ArticleDOI
First-pass MR imaging in the assessment of perfusion impairment in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and the Asp175Asn mutation of the alpha-tropomyosin gene.
Petri Sipola,Kirsi Lauerma,Minna Husso-Saastamoinen,Jyrki T. Kuikka,Esko Vanninen,Tomi Laitinen,Hannu Manninen,Pekka Niemi,Keijo Peuhkurinen,Pertti Jääskeläinen,Markku Laakso,Johanna Kuusisto,Hannu J. Aronen +12 more
TL;DR: First-pass MR imaging facilitates global and regional evaluation of perfusion impairment in patients with HCM, and the severity of perfusions impairment is associated with the degree of LV hypertrophy.
