Kajander,Uday Trivedi,Juha Hartikainen,Vesa Anttila,David Hildick-Smith,Leif Thuesen,Evald Høj Christiansen +45 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors compared percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) for the treatment of left main coronary artery disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Safety and Feasibility of Catheter-Based Local Intracoronary Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Gene Transfer in the Prevention of Postangioplasty and In-Stent Restenosis and in the Treatment of Chronic Myocardial Ischemia Phase II Results of the Kuopio Angiogenesis Trial (KAT)
Marja Hedman,Juha Hartikainen,Mikko Syvänne,Joachim Stjernvall,Antti Hedman,Antti Kivelä,Esko Vanninen,Hanna Mussalo,Esa Kauppila,Sakari Simula,Outi Närvänen,A. Rantala,Keijo Peuhkurinen,Markku S. Nieminen,Markku Laakso,Seppo Ylä-Herttuala +15 more
TL;DR: Gene transfer with V EGF-Adv or VEGF-P/L during PTCA and stenting shows that intracoronary gene transfer can be performed safely and well tolerated, and a significant increase was detected in myocardial perfusion in the VEGFs treated patients.
Journal ArticleDOI
Radiofrequency Ablation as Initial Therapy in Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation
Jens Cosedis Nielsen,Arne Johannessen,Pekka Raatikainen,Gerhard Hindricks,Håkan Walfridsson,Ole Kongstad,Steen Pehrson,Anders Englund,Juha Hartikainen,Leif Spange Mortensen,Peter Steen Hansen +10 more
TL;DR: In comparing radiofrequency ablation with antiarrhythmic drug therapy as first-line treatment in patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation, it is found no significant difference between the treatment groups in the cumulative burden of atrialfibrillation over a period of 2 years.
Journal ArticleDOI
Vascular endothelial growth factors: biology and current status of clinical applications in cardiovascular medicine.
TL;DR: In this article, the authors reviewed the biology and effects of VEGFs as well as the current status of clinical applications and future perspectives of the therapeutic use of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in cardiovascular medicine.
