Substance P-induced cadherin expression and its signal transduction in a cloned human corneal epithelial cell line
Kaoru Araki-Sasaki,Shin Aizawa,Masaki Hiramoto,Masatsugu Nakamura,Osamu Iwase,Katsuhiko Nakata,Yutaka Sasaki,Tomiya Mano,Hiroshi Handa,Yasuo Tano +9 more
TL;DR: Findings indicate that SP induced E‐cadherin expression through PKC and CaMK activation and suggest that a lack of SP may account in part for the pathogenesis of neurotrophic keratitis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Thrombin stimulates the proliferation of human retinal glial cells
TL;DR: Thrombin may be a plasma-derived mitogen capable of stimulating retinal glial cells to proliferate when there is a breakdown of the blood-retinal barrier, and this finding suggests that a thorough wash-out of a thrombin-containing infusate and/or the rapid inactivation of this molecule would prevent Thrombin from exacerbating a proliferative disorder of the retina.
Journal ArticleDOI
Phagocytosis by the murine testicular TM4 Sertoli cell line in culture.
TL;DR: The findings demonstrated that the murine Sertoli line exhibits potent phagocytic function and suggest the regulation of this activity may differ from that in "professional" phagocytes, as well as suggesting thatphagocytosis by SERToli cells requires extracellular Ca++.
Journal ArticleDOI
1,25-Dihydroxyvitamin D3 Antagonizes Interferon-γ-Induced Expression of Class II Major Histocompatibility Antigens on Thyroid Follicular and Testicular Leydig Cells
TL;DR: The results suggest that an endocrinological mediator is capable of inhibiting class II induction on resident endocrine tissue populations and, therefore, could help to diminish local CD4+ T-cell recognition of these cells.
Journal ArticleDOI
Interferon-gamma induces the expression of major histocompatibility antigens by human retinal glial cells.
TL;DR: Results show that IFN-gamma can regulate the expression of MHC molecules by human retina glial cells in culture, consistent with the concept that glia may play a role in immunological disorders affecting the retina.
