Mechanical and microstructural investigation of friction spot welded AA6181-T4 aluminium alloy

TL;DR: Friction spot welding (FSpW) is a solid-state welding process suitable for spot joining lightweight low melting point materials like aluminium and magnesium alloys as discussed by the authors, where a rotating three-piece tool (clamping ring, sleeve and pin) creates a connection between sheets in overlap configuration by means of frictional heat and mechanical work.
Journal ArticleDOI

Preliminary study on the mechanical behavior of friction spot welds

TL;DR: In this paper, the results of the mechanical tests obtained on AA2024-T3 aluminum alloy were used to calibrate and validate a numerical model that was used to predict the joint failure mode.
Journal ArticleDOI

Mechanical performance of AA6181 refill friction spot welds under Lap shear tensile loading

TL;DR: In this article, the fracture behavior of refill friction spot welding welds under shear tensile loading was investigated and the strength of the weld and its ductile/brittle behavior were associated with the nucleation, growth and propagation of two types of cracks: circumferential cracks and annular cracks.
Journal ArticleDOI

Microstructural and Mechanical Observations of Galvanized TRIP Steel after Friction Stir Spot Welding

TL;DR: In this paper, the influence of tool rotational speed and dwell time on the microstructure and mechanical properties of lap-joints were investigated, and the strength of the welds depended on a complex interaction between geometrical features, such as bonding ligament length and distance between the zinc and the keyhole left by the pin.
