Journal ArticleDOI
Compartment-specific accumulation of recombinant immunoglobulins in plant cells: an essential tool for antibody production and immunomodulation of physiological functions and pathogen activity.
Udo Conrad,Ulrike Fiedler +1 more
TL;DR: It has been demonstrated that ER retention is essential for the accumulation of sufficient scFv to bind high concentrations of ABA in the transgenic seeds and seed-specific expression of high amounts of anti-ABA-scFv's at a defined time of seed-development induced a developmental switch from seed ripening to vegetative growth.
Journal ArticleDOI
Production of spider silk proteins in tobacco and potato
TL;DR: The accumulation of recombinant silk proteins, which are encoded by synthetic genes of 420–3,600 base pairs, up to a level of at least 2% of total soluble protein in the endoplasmic reticulum of tobacco and potato leaves and potato tubers, respectively are demonstrated.
Journal ArticleDOI
High-level production and long-term storage of engineered antibodies in transgenic tobacco seeds
Ulrike Fiedler,Udo Conrad +1 more
TL;DR: Transgenic tobacco seeds are used to produce large amounts of a functionally active engineered antibody that recognizes the hapten oxazolone and could be detected in developing as well as ripe seeds of regenerated transgenic plants, and the functionally active scFv is stably deposited and accumulates up to 0.67% of the total soluble seed protein.
Journal ArticleDOI
Expression of a single‐chain Fv antibody against abscisic acid creates a wilty phenotype in transgenic tobacco
Olga Artsaenko,Martin Peisker,Uta zur Nieden,Ulrike Fiedler,Elmar W. Weiler,Klaus Müntz,Udo Conrad +6 more
TL;DR: Evidence is presented that the expression of single-chain Fv antibodies against abscisic acid in the endoplasmic reticulum of transgenic tobacco cells leads to a wilty phenotype.
Journal ArticleDOI
Elastin-like polypeptides revolutionize recombinant protein expression and their biomedical application.
TL;DR: Recent developments in ELP technology and the substantial potential of ELPs for the deployment of transgenic plants as bioreactors to synthesize both biopharmaceuticals and industrial proteins are discussed.
