Journal ArticleDOI

A fluorometric method for the differentiation of algal populations in vivo and in situ.

TL;DR: The method for algae differentiation described here opens up new research areas, monitoring and supervision tasks related to photosynthetic primary production in aquatic environments.
Journal ArticleDOI

Temperature sensing by plants: the primary characteristics of signal perception and calcium response.

TL;DR: This work applies different regimes of temperature changes with well-defined cooling rates to intact roots of Arabidopsis thaliana expressing the calcium-indicator, aequorin, and indicates that temperature sensing is mainly dependent on the cooling rate, dT/dt, whereas the absolute temperature T is of less importance.
Journal ArticleDOI

Determination of DPPH Radical Oxidation Caused by Methanolic Extracts of Some Microalgal Species by Linear Regression Analysis of Spectrophotometric Measurements

TL;DR: The demonstrated modified spectrophotometric method makes use of the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical and its specific absorbance properties to determination of the microalgae's methanolic extracts antioxidative potentials which was independent to the employed DPPH concentrations.
Journal ArticleDOI

Interpretation of current-voltage relationships for "active" ion transport systems: I. Steady-state reaction-kinetic analysis of class-I mechanisms.

TL;DR: A simple reaction-kinetic model to describe electrogenic pumping and co- (or counter-) transport of ions, which accommodates many known properties of proton-transport systems, particularly as observed in “chemiosmotic” or energy-coupling membranes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Role of the plasma membrane proton pump in pH regulation in non-animal cells

TL;DR: Possible methods by which eukaryotic cells can regulate intracellular pH (pHi) in response to experimental acid loading were investigated by using as a model cell the fungus Neurospora, starting from the fact that this organism possesses a powerful electrogenic proton extrusion pump.
