Journal ArticleDOI
Hypercoagulability of COVID-19 patients in intensive care unit: A report of thromboelastography findings and other parameters of hemostasis.
Mauro Panigada,Nicola Bottino,Paola Tagliabue,Giacomo Grasselli,Cristina Novembrino,Veena Chantarangkul,Antonio Pesenti,Flora Peyvandi,Armando Tripodi +8 more
TL;DR: The severe inflammatory state secondary to COVID‐19 leads to a severe derangement of hemostasis that has been recently described as a state of disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) and consumption coagulopathy, defined as decreased platelet count, increased fibrin(ogen) degradation products such as D‐dimer, as well as low fibrInogen.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evidence of normal thrombin generation in cirrhosis despite abnormal conventional coagulation tests.
Armando Tripodi,Francesco Salerno,Veena Chantarangkul,Marigrazia Clerici,Massimo Cazzaniga,Massimo Primignani,Pier Mannuccio Mannucci +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used a thrombin generation test to investigate the coagulation function in patients with cirrhosis, and they found that the reduction of pro-coagulant factors in patients had little impact on the reduction in anticoagulants.
Journal ArticleDOI
An imbalance of pro- vs anti-coagulation factors in plasma from patients with cirrhosis.
Armando Tripodi,Massimo Primignani,Veena Chantarangkul,Alessandra Dell'Era,Marigrazia Clerici,Roberto de Franchis,Massimo Colombo,Pier Mannuccio Mannucci +7 more
TL;DR: The hypercoagulability of plasma from patients with cirrhosis appears to result from increased levels of factor VIII and decreased levels of protein C-typical features of patients with Cirrhosis, which might explain the risk for venous thromboembolism in patients with chronic liver disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Thrombin generation in patients with cirrhosis: The role of platelets†
Armando Tripodi,Massimo Primignani,Veena Chantarangkul,Marigrazia Clerici,Alessandra Dell'Era,Federica Fabris,Francesco Salerno,Pier Mannuccio Mannucci +7 more
TL;DR: Severe thrombocytopenia may limit thrombin generation in patients with cirrhosis, and these findings might justify platelet transfusion in Patients with low platelet counts when they bleed spontaneously or before undergoing surgery or liver biopsy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Thrombin generation assessed as endogenous thrombin potential in patients with hyper- or hypo-coagulability.
TL;DR: The results suggest that the method can be used for investigations on the clinical value of ETP, and Platelet-rich and platelet-poor plasma are suitable testing materials.
