Journal ArticleDOI
Strong Amerind/white sex bias and a possible Sephardic contribution among the founders of a population in northwest Colombia.
Luis G. Carvajal-Carmona,Iván Soto,Nicolás Pineda,Daniel Ortiz-Barrientos,Constanza Duque,Jorge Ospina-Duque,Mark I. McCarthy,Patricia Montoya,Victor Alvarez,Gabriel Bedoya,Andres Ruiz-Linares,Andres Ruiz-Linares +11 more
TL;DR: A highly asymmetric pattern of mating in early Antioquia, involving mostly immigrant men and local native women is indicated, with the frequency of the four Amerind founder lineages being closest to Native Americans currently living in the area.
Journal ArticleDOI
Admixture dynamics in Hispanics: A shift in the nuclear genetic ancestry of a South American population isolate
Gabriel Bedoya,Patricia Montoya,Jenny García,Iván Soto,Stephane Bourgeois,L. Carvajal,Damian Labuda,Victor Alvarez,Jorge Ospina,Philip W. Hedrick,Andres Ruiz-Linares +10 more
TL;DR: Interestingly, despite a nearly complete Native American mtDNA background, Antioquia has a markedly predominant European ancestry at the autosomal and X chromosome level, which suggests that, after foundation, continuing admixture with Spanish men (but not with native women) increased the European nuclear ancestry of Antioqia.
Journal ArticleDOI
Urokinase Versus VATS for Treatment of Empyema: A Randomized Multicenter Clinical Trial
Marhuenda C,Concepció Barceló,Inmaculada Fuentes,G. Guillén,Indalecio Cano,Maria Chitty Lopez,Francisco Zavala Hernández,Eduardo G. Pérez-Yarza,José A Matute,María A García-Casillas,Victor Alvarez,Antonio Moreno-Galdó +11 more
TL;DR: Drainage plus urokinase instillation is as effective as video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery as first-line treatment of septated PPE in children.
Journal ArticleDOI
Differential effect of fetal, neonatal and treatment variables on neurodevelopment in infants with congenital hypothyroidism.
M. J. Moreno Alvarez,F. Carvajal,A. Renón,C. Pérez,A. Olivares,Gerardo Rodríguez,Victor Alvarez +6 more
TL;DR: The pattern of influences suggests that fetal and neonatal hypothyroidism have different effects on brain maturation sites during the first 2 years of life and that some subtle neurocognitive deficits are probably unavoidable.
