Journal ArticleDOI
A Comparison of Balloon-Expandable-Stent Implantation with Balloon Angioplasty in Patients with Coronary Artery Disease
Patrick W. Serruys,P. de Jaegere,Ferdinand Kiemeneij,Carlos Macaya,Wolfgang Rutsch,Gr. Heyndrickx,H. Emanuelsson,Jean Marco,Victor Legrand,P. Materne +9 more
TL;DR: The clinical and angiographic outcomes were better in patients who received a stent than in those who received standard coronary angioplasty, however, this benefit was achieved at the cost of a significantly higher risk of vascular complications at the access site and a longer hospital stay.
Journal ArticleDOI
Randomised comparison of implantation of heparin-coated stents with balloon angioplasty in selected patients with coronary artery disease (Benestent II)
Patrick W. Serruys,Ben A. van Hout,Hans Bonnier,Victor Legrand,Eulogio García,Carlos Macaya,Eduardo Sousa,Wim Der Van Giessen,Antonio Colombo,Ricardo Seabra-Gomes,Ferdinand Kiemeneij,Peter Ruygrok,John A. Ormiston,Håkan Emanuelsson,Jean Fajadet,Michael Haude,Silvio Klugmann,Marie Angèle Morel +17 more
TL;DR: Over 12-month follow-up, a strategy of elective stenting with heparin-coated stents is more effective but also more costly than balloon angioplasty.
Journal ArticleDOI
Randomized multicenter comparison of conventional anticoagulation versus antiplatelet therapy in unplanned and elective coronary stenting. The full anticoagulation versus aspirin and ticlopidine (fantastic) study.
Michel E. Bertrand,Victor Legrand,J. Boland,Eckart Fleck,Johannes J. R. M. Bonnier,H. Emmanuelson,M. Vrolix,Luc Missault,Sergio Chierchia,M. Casaccia,L. Niccoli,Aytekin Oto,C. White,M. Webb-Peploe,E. Van Belle,Eugene P. McFadden +15 more
TL;DR: Antiplatelet therapy after coronary stenting significantly reduced rates of bleeding and subacute stent occlusion compared with conventional anticoagulation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Heparin-Coated Palmaz-Schatz Stents in Human Coronary Arteries Early Outcome of the Benestent-II Pilot Study
P. W. Serruys,Hakan Emanuelsson,W.J. van der Giessen,A. C. Lunn,F. Kiemeney,C. Macaya,Wolfgang Rutsch,Gr. Heyndrickx,H. Suryapranata,Victor Legrand,Jean-Jacques Goy,Pierre Materne,Hans Bonnier,M. C. Morice,Jean Fajadet,Jorge Belardi,Antonio Colombo,E. Garcia,Peter Ruygrok,P. de Jaegere,M. A. Morel +20 more
TL;DR: The Benestent-II Pilot Study as discussed by the authors evaluated the safety of delaying and eliminating anticoagulant therapy in patients receiving a heparin-coated stent in conjunction with antiplatelet drugs.
Clinical and angiographic outcome of elective stent implantation in small coronary vessels: an analysis of the BENESTENT trial.
David Keane,Aida J. Azar,P. de Jaegere,Wolfgang Rutsch,B. De Bruyne,Victor Legrand,Ferdinand Kiemeneij,P. J. De Feyter,P. van de Heuvel,Yukio Ozaki,M. A. Morel,P. W. Serruys +11 more
TL;DR: Logistic regression indicated that decreasing vessel size was associated with an increasing risk of a cardiac event for both the stent and balloon angioplasty populations.
