Individual tree biomass estimation using terrestrial laser scanning

TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed the use of stem curve and crown size geometric measurements from TLS data as a basis for allometric biomass models rather than statistical three-dimensional point metrics, since TLS statistical metrics are dependent on various scanning parameters and tree neighbourhood characteristics.
Journal ArticleDOI

International benchmarking of terrestrial laser scanning approaches for forest inventories

TL;DR: The main objectives of this benchmarking study are to evaluate the potential of applying TLS in characterizing forests, to clarify the strengths and the weaknesses of TLS as a measure of forest digitization, and to reveal the capability of recent algorithms for tree-attribute extraction.
Journal ArticleDOI

Automated Stem Curve Measurement Using Terrestrial Laser Scanning

TL;DR: The results of this paper confirm the feasibility of using TLS to produce stem curve data in an automated, accurate and noninvasive way and indicate that the point cloud provides adequate information to accurately derive stem volumes from standing trees.
