TL;DR: In this paper, high performance liquid chromatography with photodiode array UV-Vis detection and atmospheric pressure chemical ionization mass spectrometry was used to analyze sediment samples from the meromictic Ace Lake (Antarctica), as well as a Pliocene sapropel from the Mediterranean Sea and a Miocene marl from the Vena del Gesso formation (Italy).

TL;DR: In this article, the upper Jurassic Calcaires en plaquettes Formation (southern Jura, France) was examined, at the millimetre scale, if the lithological differences are accompanied by differences in the composition of organic matter (OM), and if microbial mats played a role in the preservation of OM, as suggested previously.
