Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of different head groups and functionalised side chains on the aquatic toxicity of ionic liquids

TL;DR: In this article, the influence of different head groups, functionalised side chains and anions of ionic liquids on the marine bacteria Vibrio fischeri, the limnic green algae Scenedesmus vacuolatus and the fresh water plant Lemna minor was investigated.
Journal ArticleDOI

Qualitative and quantitative structure activity relationships for the inhibitory effects of cationic head groups, functionalised side chains and anions of ionic liquids on acetylcholinesterase

TL;DR: The introduction of polar hydroxy, ether or nitrile functions into the alkyl side chain is shown to be a potent structural alteration to shift the corresponding ionic liquids to a lower inhibitory potential.
Journal ArticleDOI

Whole-cell biocatalysis: Evaluation of new hydrophobic ionic liquids for efficient asymmetric reduction of prochiral ketones

TL;DR: 12 new water immiscible ionic liquids with adequate distribution coefficients were evaluated with respect to their applicability in biphasic asymmetric reductions of prochiral ketones in comparison to 9 already published ILs.
Journal ArticleDOI

Recycling of the ionic liquid phase in process integrated biphasic whole-cell biocatalysis

TL;DR: The repeated use of the ionic liquid phase was studied in a reaction system containing 20% (v/v) 1-hexyl-1-methylpyrrolidinium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide and no decrease in conversion was experienced during the 25 subsequent batch biotransformations.
