Journal ArticleDOI
Correction of ventricular cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples for blood content does not increase sensitivity and specificity for the detection of CSF infection.
TL;DR: Correction is not necessary when using the white blood cell count as a parameter to predict CSF infection in ventricular CSF samples, because it does not increase sensitivity and specificity for the detection of culture-positive CSf samples.
Journal ArticleDOI
Lactic acid is of low predictive value for the diagnosis of bacterial infection in ventricular cerebrospinal fluid samples containing residual blood.
TL;DR: Although LA concentrations in CSF are evidently a predictor of bacterial infection, its diagnostic value for the detection ofacterial infection in ventricular CSF with residual blood is limited.
Journal ArticleDOI
[Adjuvant antibiotic therapy as a 2-step treatment concept in early-onset periodontitis: a strategy for eradication of bacteria that cause periodontitis]
TL;DR: The tissue-sparing two-step procedure brought about good clinical and radiological results, which can be significantly bettered by the addition of metronidazole, achieving eradication of pathogens involved in periodontal disease.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: In this paper , the authors investigated and compared the molecular epidemiology and carbapenem resistance determinants in clinical Acinetobacter baumannii isolates collected during four multicentre surveillance studies conducted by the Paul-Ehrlich-Society for Infection Therapy.
